ANTARCTIC WEEK
Committee’s Plans
It was hoped that Sir Edmund Hillary and Lady Hillary would attend the Antarctic week in Christchurch this year, Mr C. N. Todd, the public relations officer, advised the City Council. It was also proposed to have the New Zealand premiere of a film being produced by the National Film Unit on New Zealand’s work in Antarctica.
If planning could be commenced now, the committee should be able to organise a substantial treaty exhibition in the city, and possibly even a conference, he said.
The council appointed Crs. H. P. Smith, A. R. Guthrey and L. Christie to the Antarctic Week Committee, with the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) ex officio.
