RABBIT POLICY
Statement Did Surprise
The statements by the chairman of the Rabbit Destruction Council (Mr G. B. Baker) reported in “The Press” yesterday, were surprising in view of his long association With Federated Farmers and other farmers’ organisations, said the Dominion vice-president of the Federated Farmers (Mr A. C. Begg) yesterday. Mr Baker was well aware that not all aspects of Rabbit Destruction Council policy had the support of all farmers. Mr R. WoolertOn, the president of the Waikato Province of Federated Farmers, had. a duty to represent the view of his province and to act as advocate for any of his members whom he ; believed to have been unfairly treated, said Mr Begg. Mr Woolerton had already stated that he did not condone the breach of the law. Mr Baker should know better than to suggest that Mr Woolerton’s statement committed the whole federation, said Mr Begg. “The federation’s policy will be decided in Wellington by the Dominion conference if and when the matter is discussed,” concluded Mr Begg.
