Tourist Hotels
Sir, —1 regret my mistake in saying “double” room instead of “single.” I am not ill-informed, as . “Observer” supposes, having recently spent 11 months in the United States and many visits to Honolulu. 1 could not find a palatial hotel where meals were included in the tariff, that not being the American plan; but I would be most grateful for the name of that hotel. I was not discussing rate of exchange, only the cost to a New Zealander and the complaints of American tourists. When one receives only 2 dollars 82 cents for the £ one cannot assess one’s costs at the par rate, but this works the opposite way for Americans visiting here and lowers tariff considerably for them.—Yours, etc., I. H. STRINGER. May 19, 1964.
