TRAVEL PLAN FOR COWS
First-Class Berths Offered
"The Prej«” Special Service AUCKLAND, May 19.
Improved accommodation for cows is being offered in Matson line ships. The company is now offering all cows a choice of firstclass or tourist-class accommodation.
First-class cows travel in steel containers, each housing eight animals. Built-in feed troughs filled with hay provide separate dining rooms and each container has four bars, or drinking troughs, which fill automatically when an animal has a drink.
Tourist-class cows travel in the conventional slated wooden stalls on deck.
This new service is being tested in the Hawaiian Farmer, which is carrying eight first and 90 tourist-class cattle from North America to Hawaii. If the cruise is successful the company intends to manufacture enough containers for all future livestock shipments.
