THEFTS AT UNIVERSITY
£4los A Day Average fSpecial Crspdt. N.Z.P.A., LONDON, May 14. An average of £4 10s is stolen every day of every term at University College, London, according to- the college newspaper.
It urges the university authorities to decide on precautions to prevent thieves entering the buildings.
The newspaper said that up to the end of last term, thefts of, money and property totalled £542. This included £ll2 in cash, 25 coats, six watches, four bicycles, 14 briefcases, tools .worth £25, wallets, two amplifiers worth £5O each, typewriter?, radios, three suits and a trumpet. Included were 874 library books listed as missing, cutlery and crockery worth £240 stolen from the refectory, and •glasses worth £lOO stolen from the bar.
A spokesman for the college staff said that the prevalence of theft at the college was probably no higher than could be expected in a floating population of 5000 in an area of six acres and a half.
