TWO N.Z. WINNERS
Plantation Runs Well
(HZ. Press Assn.— Copyright) SYDNEY, May 17. The Former New Zealand sprinter Plantation, backed to favouritism at 11 to 4, won the May Handicap at Warwick Farm yesterday by a length and a quarter from Enfold, with Saydor a length back third.
Plantation, failed in Brisbane last year and was not over impressive in Sydney until his good run yesterday.
The trainer. M. McCarten, said, however, that Plantation was unlikely to go north for the big Queensland races.
Plantation has been entered for the Doomben Ten Thousand in July.
G. Moore, on Plantation for the first time, gave one of his classic riding displays.
Saydor. a Doomben Cup candidate having his second run after a spell, ran a particularly good race. The only big bet noted against Plantation was £3OOO to £lOOO.
The Gabador filly Gabo Isle, trained and partly owned by T. J. Smith, landed some big bets when he won the Two-Year-Old Handicap. Some of the winning bets were £5OOO to £4OOO, £2OOO to £lBOO and £2500 to £2OOO.
Gabo Isle (10 to 9), which cost 900gns in New Zealand, was having only her fifth start in a race yesterday.
Another of Gabador’s progeny. Gabadan, a colt from the smart New Zealand sprinter Yahabeebe, finished third to Western Ballad and Anthem in the Juvenile Handicap for two-year-old colts and geldings.
