(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, May 16.
A police constable was knocked out and left locked to railings with his handcuffs when he surprised a thief early yesterday morning.
The constable, 24-year-old Michael Jay, was released an hour later when another constable heard him blowing his whistle for help. Constable Jay was attacked from behind as he was checking a storeyard in Ledbury, Herefordshire. When freed he was dazed 1 and unable to remember what happened but it is thought he surprised a man attempting to steal copper wire.
