A JUDGE OF STOCK
Mr W. J. Medlicott, of Hook, Waimate, earned the distinction of being New Zealand’s leading young farmer stock judging competitions stock juddging competitions held at Addington Show Grounds this week.
Aged 26 years and married, Mr Medlicott farms in partnership with his father a property of just under 400 acres at Hook. He is also in partnership with his father in a Southdown stud. On the farm they carry about 1000 sheep including 800 Romney ewes and 200 Southdown stud ewes. Replacements for the Romney flock are not bred on the farm. They also grow about 100 acres of grain crop annually, including wheat, oats and barley. A member of the Hook Young Farmers’ Club, Mr Medlicott is a former chairman of the Canterbury council of the movement and also of the Waimate district.
