REPAIRS TO RUNWAY
Rough Patches At Whenuapai
"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, May 15.
The Ministry of Works next week will begin repairing rough patches on Whenuapai Airport runways which have been causing concern to pilots and the National Airways Corporation. The vibration has led N.A.C. to fit special instruments to aircraft to measure the effect of runway surface conditions. The instruments are being placed on Viscount airliners to find out more precisely the technical effect of the vibration on the structure of the aircraft.
Mr C. W. Labette, N.A.C. chief engineer, said in Wellington that the corporation would analyse the results and discuss them with the Department of Civil Aviation and the aircraft manufacturers.
