SYDNEY, May 15. A Christchurch visitor to) Sydney, Mr M. B. Lawrence, gave six Sydney workmen ai £lOO,OOO shot-in-the-arm today! when he drew the number of their £3 ticket in the Opera) House lottery. He failed to do well by | his countrymen, however, as none of the top prizes went; to New Zealand. Mr Lawrence has retired as] publican of Sydenham’s Club) Hotel, which is owned by the) Lawrence family. He knows what it is like to' win big money: he once collected £5OOO for ss, the biggest double in New Zealand up to the time. The six men for whom Mr Lawrence drew first prize
work in the maintenance department of a Sydney factory. i They spend £9 a week on lot)tery tickets. | One of the group, 30-year-old Ernest Zaccaria (the only ) bachelor), is thinking of buying a trotter—and looking for a girl-friend. “I guess I will have time to look around for one now,” he said today. Mr Lawrence will return to his home in Christchurch on Wednesday after a two-week holiday.
