‘End Of My Rowing’
(K-Z Press Assoeiotion) HAMILTON, May 15. The Waikato oarsman, A. J. Ruiterman. does not intend to contest a New Zealand Rowing Association decision declaring him a professional because he accepted prize money for a metal shovelling contest at Auckland several weeks ago.
“This means the end of my rowing,” said Ruiterman, a Dutch drainlayer, this afternoon.
“If I eould go back Into rowing. 1 would do so,” he said. “But to fight a thing like this would take time and money. And they have already made their minds up and would not change.” Last night the association council decided he should forfeit his amateur status. Anybody who competes against him will automatically be declared a professional also.
