Basketball Coach On Second Visit

One of America’s most prominent and widelv travelled men’s basketball coaches is expected to visit Christchurch later this season in instruct phvers in Canterbun. He is Mr Stuart K. Inman, head basketbail coach at San Jose State College. California.

Mr Inman, who will be in Sew Zealand for two months between June 5 and August 5. made a similar visit to New Zealand in 1961 under a United Sates Foreign Service Grant. He was only able to spend a few davs in each centre and the full potential of his New Zealand tour was not realised. It was hoped that this time the players and coaches would go to Mr Inman instead of him going to them, the secreUry of the Canterbury Mens Basketball Association (Mr A. W. Barrett)' said yesterday. It was possible he would be in two or three main centres, with Christchurch as one. Others were likely to be Palmerston North and Hamilton. Now 37. Mr Inman has instructed physical education and coached basketball for 13 vears. As a player for San Jose State College from 1948-1950. when the team was ranked among the 20

best college sides in the United States, Mr Inman established two records which are unbroken. He scored 1503 points in three seasons and 521 points in one season In 1959, shortly before his last New Zealand tour, he visited Singapore and Borneo to conduct basketball clinics in the principal centres.
