In an attempt to beat the shortage of accommodation—and the high rate of rents—in the Australian Federal capital of Canberra, eight Labour members of Parliament have formed a company to build a block of flats for themselves in one of the city’s exclusive suburbs. The members, who now live in hotels during the parliamentary session, will each occupy a flat in the new building. At present only Ministers have flats or houses provided in Canberra and a territory ordinance does not allow the building of home units. “So the only way out was to fjrm a company,” one of the members concerned. Senator O’Byrne, from Tasmania, explained.
