Religious Broadcasts
Sir, —As one who derives considerable ,pleasure from religious broadcasts, I read with concern that only one service will shortly be broadcast over our radio stations. May I ask who has made this decision? Have representatives from our listeners and church denominations been given a voice? For the listeners, with natural wide individual differences, what advantages can there be in providing one national linkup service? Is it not possible to provide at least an alternative service which will give some freedom to listeners to select a service of worship which is related to their own convictions and needs?— Yours, etc., BABY-SITTER.
May 12, 1964. [The Director-General of Broadcasting (Mr G. H. Stringer) said: “For some years representations have been made to the N.Z.B.C. for the presentation of single church programmes on link throughout New Zealand. This will be possible later in the year when additional programme lines become available to complete a nationwide hook-up of YA and YZ stations. The broadcasting church authorities have been asked through their representative body, the Central Religious Advisory Committee, whether they wish to take advantage of these link facilities. The N.Z.B.C. will work in future along whatever lines the C.R.A.C. recommends.”]
