“Capping Mag”
Sir, —While “Calchas” condemns our future leading citizens for their open ribaldry at our Queen, might 1 suggest the first one to laugh would be the Duke? As to “Another Disappointed Citizen” I would have thought the figures quoted speak for the popularity of the magazine; 50,000 in 48 hours is an achievement many novelists would relish. Is he one of those hypocritical persons who dredge every bit of filth out of their minds when they read, something which is a bit “close to the knuckle”? Obviously he is not one of 49,900-odd other readers who read, laugh, and then forget the whole thing. Anyone who can raise almost £6OOO in a day for a good cause can have my 2s 6d any time.— Yours, etc., PRO CAPPING WEEK. i May 13, 1964. [This correspondence may now cease.—Ed., “The Press”]
