One of the most consistently successful players in the Canterbury men’s basketball A grade competition this season has been B. Woolford (Rex). With one round of games now completed, Woolford’s in-

dividual points total is second only to that of the American Rotary Scholar, S. Bridges (University A). He has scored 68 points in the six matches he has played in and has generally been the spearhead of Rex’s attack. Woolford was a late selection for the Canterbury B side last season, but is showing much better form now.

The 1961-63 New Zealand Rugby League centre, R. W. Bailey, scored the winning try in the MaoriPakeha trial match to select the Auckland team to play West Coast at Auckland today. Bailey scored his second try on the call of time to allow the Maoris to win, 16-13. * * *

The Harewood golfer, B. C. Taylor, is compiling a first-class record in interclub play. He has now won 13 consecutive matches, including six in this season's Woodward Cup competition, and has reduced bis handicap to five. At 17, Taylor is still at St. Andrew’s College, and plays at No. 8 forward for the College first fifteen. A versatile sportsman, he Is also a member of the College first cricket XI.
