RECOVERY
When the veteran Kaiapoi golfer, I. B. Cromb, hit a one-iron out of bounds from the fifteenth tee at Avondale in a Woodward Cup match on Sunday, his opponent, B. T. Quirke (Christchurch, A) played a fine shot to the green. His hopes were still high when Cromb had played his third from the tee. Into the sun. the players quickly lost sight of the bail and had little idea of where it had ended. A considerable search, including a minute inspection of a bunker by Quirke, produced no result, and the problem was solved only when someone looked at the cup. Cromb had scored a 3 in two by finding the cup with his second shot—his third with penalty. Understandably, Quirke took three more after this to get down, for a loss, and Cromb carried on to an easy win.
