ROLE OF ORIONS
Adequate Purchase (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 27. The five Orion aircraft New Zealand has indicated it will buy for the -R.N.Z.A.F. will be perfectly satisfactory for the maritime role they will have to play, according to Vice-Admiral J. T. Hayward, commander of the United States anti-submarine forces in the Pacific. “I am glad you are changing to the Orion because 1 don’t think the Sunderland has the capability for the job,” he said. He said .he did not think there would be any delay in delivering the aircraft once New Zealand confirmed' the order. He had offered to make places for New 'Zealand airmen in military schools in the United States to enable them' to train on the Orion. The Admiral is here on a two-day visit for talks with the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre), whom he met today, and the chiefs of staff.
