Second Annual Horse Trials At Otahuna
Otahuna, with its beautiful autumn setting, and perlect ground and weather conditions, attracted a large crowd to the New Zealand ' Horse Society's junior committee’s second annual horse trials.
The cross-country phase, the most popular of the three phase competlon, provided the public with its fill of exciting and daring jumping, The solid construction of the fences and open nature of the course encouraged free, bold jumping, resulting in splendid rounds being ridden.
Amongst these. Diana Cun ningham on Harvest Moon Jenny Dunn on Neliavale and Diana Dunn on Young Blaze deserve full merit.
Fine displays were also given by the invitation competitors Jane Inglis on the 13 hand Orion, and Celia Meares on Tokorangi, jumped faultless rounds in preparation for the New Zealand Pony Club cbatnp-
lonships to be held at Motukarara in May. Some interesting obstacles, requiring thought on the part of the competitors, were the V fence into the hayshed, the two water splashes, and Num ber eight, the maze fence, which gave the competitors eight alternatives of jumping The show jumping phase concluded the competition w’tn most competitors jumping fluent, clear rounds.
