PORSCHE WINS TARGA FLORIO
Third Of Starters Last Distance (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PALERMO (Sicily) April 26. Colin Davis, of Britain, and Antonio Pucci, of Italy, today drove a German Porsche to victory in the Targa Florio, the world’s oldest—and possibly toughest—open road motor race, the Associated Press reported. The winning time of Davis and Pucci was 7hr lOmin 53,35ec, for an average speed of 64 m.p.h. in the 447-mile race. Second was a Porsche ■driven by Gianni Balzarini, of Italy, and Herbert Linge, of West Germany, in 7hr 23 min 15sec. Bruno Bussinello and Nino Todaro, of Italy, in an Alfa Romeo, were, third in 7hr 27 min 7sec. Less than a third of the 64 starters finished the gruelling race of To laps around a circuit of 44i miles. The’Targa Florio, first run in 1806, counted for the world championship standings for manufacturers.
