45 Years In Politics

(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT, April 23. Delegates to the annual meeting of the Labour Representation Committee at Westport joined in a tribute to Mrs Irene Stewart, who did not seek re-election to the presidency after serving the movement at Westport since 1919. In that year she was a member of the first L.R.C. formed by the late Mr H. E. Holland, then member for Buller. She was a member of the Westport and Waimangaroa branches of the Labour Party for long periods and was organiser for the late Messrs P. C. Webb and C. F. Skinner, and also the present member, Mr W. E. Rowling. Before vacating her seat Mrs Stewart thanked all who had helped her in her work, particularly the vice-presi-dent, Mrs Vera Gray, the secretary-treasurer (Mr T. F. Skinner) and Mr Rowling.
