Driving From Wellington To London Forecast
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, March 31. “In the foreseeable future people should be able to drive from Wellington to London with the aid of one or two ferries,” said the secretarygeneral of the World Touring and Automobile Organisation, Mr M. H. Perlowski, today. A Trans-Asia Highway was being built to help bring about that development, said Mr Perlowski. There were some gaps in the system, but they would eventually be filled. His organisation aimed to have standard road codes introduced wherever possible and press for improved reading conditions everywhere to aid the international movement of travellers. ‘ ■<;
It was extending its activities to the South-east Asian and Australasian areas, and he had been sent out to help establish regional offices in Sydney and Bombay. Roading and education were the basic elements needed for the development of a country,
said Mr Perlowski. Through his organisation’s membership of the United Nations Economic and Social Council it was able to help obtain some roading finance for underdeveloped countries.
Mr Perlowski has come to New Zealand for discussions with local motorists’ bodies affiliated with the World Touring and Automobile Organisation.
