FRENCH MEAT PARTY VISITS STUD FARMS

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 31. A French meat mission which today inspected stud farms and saw white veal experiments at the Kuku-Mana-kau dairy factory will visit a freezing works at Longburn tomorrow before leaving for Auckland. The visit comes after re-

cent French interest in new sources of meat supply. France is a major consumer of beef and veal but her production is down and not in- ■ creasing. The French expect local i supplies to be scarce for the • next three years. Members of the mission are ■ Messrs M. Chapelle, director of F.O.R.M.A. (the organisation which administers French Government policy on the disposal of funds for supporting producers in fields such as meat and dairy production) and Government commissioner with 5.1.8.E.V. (the administrative body which carries out the policies laid down by the French Ministry of Agriculture and F.0.R.M.A.), Le Picard, president of 5.1.8.E.V., Delage, ’ director of 5.1.8.E.V., Chesnaux, vice-president of the ’ Confederation of the Butch- ' ery Trade, and Dr. Blajan, of ' the veterinary service of the ' French Ministry of Agriculture. Today the mission visited ' the offices of the Meat Board, . saw calves being produced . for white veal and saw an Ab- . erdeen Angus breeding herd and stud Romney sheep on a property near Feilding. The mission will visit various freezing works in the Auckland area.
