Texas Lawyers Seek Injunction
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) AUSTIN (Texas), Mar. 30. The State Bar of Texas today accused the San Francisco lawyer, Melvin Belli, of “outrageous conduct” after the Jack Ruby trial, United Press International reported. It asked the Texas Supreme Court to prohibit Belli from ever again practising in Texas.
Belli’s “flagrant violations of the canons of ethics have shocked the consciences of not only the lawyers of Texas and the nation, but the public as well,” the bar said in a lengthy brief filed in court. The motion asked high court permission to file suit for a permanent injunction. The bar accused Belli of “violent outbursts and outrageous conduct” shortly after Ruby was sentenced to die in the electric chair for the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald.
