FAVOURITE TOO GOOD

Tuskar Rock Well Clear

The Awapuni-trained Tuskar Rock made 11 South Island two-year-olds look very moderate in the Autumn Nursery Handicap at Riccarton yesterday.

Tuskar Rock started from the outside of the field, but was in front in next to no time and scurried away in the straight for the easiest of Wins.

Pawnee led a vain chase after him over the last three furlongs; she was beaten by four lengths. This was Tuskar Rock’s third win for Mr J. J. Barry, of Bell Block, who also owns the good stayer, Bandon. He dominated betting on the race and paid £1 17s 6d and £1 4s 6d.

Pawnee was in no danger of losing second. She beat Debbie Marie, the second favourite, by three lengths and a half.

Status Symbol and Happy Voyage were the best of the others.
