ARTS COUNCIL SOON

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, April 1. The membership of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council is likely to be announced within a few days, and the

council itself is expected to hold its first meeting within a fortnight. The chairman of the new body, which is charged with formulating policy and mak-

ing grants for cultural subjects, is expected to be Mr G. G. G. Watson, of Wellington.

The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) said tonight that the choice of members of the council had brought difficulties.

The work of the council had been carried on by the Arts Advisory Council, he said. The Arts Advisory Council officially terminated its appointment yesterday, and the new council, which is set up in terms of legislation passed last October, will carry on from there.

The names are in the process of going forward to the Governor-General for approval. It is probable that they will not be gazetted until April 9.
