Red Cross Activity

Members of the Linwood Avonside sub-centre of the Red Cross Society collected £7l in a street collection in their suburbs, and raised £3l in a special raffle and bring and buy stalllast year, it was reported at the recent annual meeting.

Vegetables were prepared for Meals on Wheels and cardigans, rugs, and bed socks were knitted for elderly patients at Burwood Hospital and some garments were sent to the North Canterbury centre for distribution.

Donations totalling £2l 10s were made to various organisations and Red Cross funds. Officers elected were: president, Mrs P. Cowper; vicepresidents, Mrs M. I. Browne, Miss W. Robertson; secre-tary-treasurer, Mrs M. McKeague: assistant secretary, Miss H. Alington; knitting and sewing supervisor, Mrs L. MacKenzie; bring and buy sales, Mrs J. House.
