Olympic Crew To Row In Chch. During N.Z. Tour

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, April 1.

The New Zealand composite eight rowing crew which has been nominated for the Tokyo Olympics is to make a tour of the country, starting either on Friday or Saturday.

The tour is being made as a substitute for a visit to Australia which has been cancelled.

Travelling by car, the eight, which has based itself at Auckland, will visit centres in both islands, giving exhibitions and demonstrations. Details of the tour have not been completed, but they will definitely row at Napier, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Alexandra, and probably at several other centres. Mr D. D. Rowlands, the manager of the crew, said today that the purpose of the tour was to try to repay the debt they owed to the rowing clubs and individuals who had given their support. The crew comprises A. Webster, G. Paterson, J. Gibbons, M. Brownlee, T. Popplewell, L. Clark, R. Skinner and J. Little, with D. Pulman as cox.

Mr Rowlands, a national rowing selector, said that the Auckland club four (A. Dryden, D. Boswell, P. Masfen, D. Storey) which won the Olympic priority trial at Lake Karapiro last week-end would also be nominated for the Olympics.
