BULAWAYO BOMB
Not Aimed At Premier (N.Z P.A.-Kmer—-Copyright > BULAWAYO. March 22. A bomb exploded 300 yards from Southern Rhodesia'; white Prime Minister (Mr Winston Field) today. It was hurled during an athletics meeting at Bulawayo's White I City Stadium. A police spokesman said later the ;bomb was "definitely not aimed” at Mr Field One iAfrican who was superficially wounded was the only casualty. The meeting continued i after the incident. s Whoever threw the bomb escaped the police cordon thrown round the stadium. ■Later. European cars leaving ithe stadium were stoned by crowds of Africans. No-one was hurt.
But one African was shot and wounded trying to “resist arrest" when police caught him hurling stones i Another African was arrested I for having a sling-shot. P.M. Not Worried Mr Field, his wife and son left the meeting about an hour after the explosion escorted by police vehicles. Both African and white athletes were stoned as they left in their cars, a police spokesman said. The African who was shot was wounded in the legs, he added. Mr Field said later: “I wasn’t worried by the explosion. It could have been a thunder flash as far as I was concerned. It did not interrupt the meeting at all "
