Rodeo
Sir, —I would be glad to read the president’s defence of this cruel sport and of this atrocious happening: “Bleeding from several gashes, the frightene-* stallion eventually bolted away ” Is this the sort of entertainment for young children? Are we supposed to be a decent Christian country? If the S.P.C.A. is incapable of preventing brutality to animals it is not worthy of support. There will always be a section of people who enjoy cruelty. Let us not encourage it and profit by it at displays.—Yours, etc., A. E. JOHNSTON, March 18, 1964. [Miss M. B. Howard, M.P., a member of the council of the SJ».CJU said: “The S.P.C.A. inspector attends all rodeo meetings, and has not had occasion to report any cruelty. Mr Johnston is welcome to attend any monthly meeting of the S.P.C.A. council, held on the second Monday of each month in the Pioneer Sports Club rooms at 7.45 p.m.”J
