Obituary MR F. C. MILNE
The death occurred in Christchurch this week of Mr Frank Clifford Milne, travel officer at the Bank of New Zealand in Christchurch. He was 56. Mr Milne was educated at the Waitaki Boys’ High School. He joined the bank in 1925 at Oamaru and five years later was transferred to Christchurch where he remained, apart from short periods of relieving work elsewhere. In 1951 Mr Milne became the first travel officer at the Christchurch branch of the bank and organised the travel department. He went to Australia on two occasions on the bank’s travel business. Mr Milne was well known to servicemen and plane crews of the United States Navy Antarctic support force passing through Christchurch airport. He was frequently at the terminal at late hours changing money. Three or four years ago, as the guest of the commanding officer, he visited McMurdo Station where he was permitted to open an agency of the bank. It remained open only for the duration of his visit. For many years Mr Milne was a member of the committee of the Canterbury Travel League and in the 1962-63 year was the league’s president. For many years he was a member of the Christchurch Savage Club. Mr Milne was keenly interested in athletics. His son, Brian, is the New Zealand Universities 880 yards record holder. Mr Milne was a hard worker for the Roman Catholic Church. He took a prominent role in fund raising as a member of the St. Bede’s ParentTeacher Association. He was also a member of the Lepers' Trust Board. Mr Milne is survived by his wife, three sons and twc daughters. One of his sons is Father Roderick Milne, S.M., of Wellington.
