Major overseas sporting events in the next tew weeks include the Sebring 12-Hours race, which starts today: the East African Safari rally on March 26 to 30; the Circuit of Ireland rally on March 27 to 31; the Portuguese rally, April 2 to 7; and the Pau Grand Prix on April 5. * * ¥ Triumph has announced it is planning the most comprehensive competition programme in its history for 1964 and 1965. The programme will include three entries in the United States Shell rally, entries at Le Mans, the Alpine Rally, the Tour de France, the R.A.C. rally, the Liege-Sofia-Liege (which will mark the first Triumph 2000 entry) and several other major races and rallies. * * ¥

Preparations for the Bluebird’s world record attempt at Lake Eyre in April or May are now well in hand, and the 19-mile long track is nearly complete. ¥ ¥ ¥

It is expected the formula one cars will be running on new, squat tyres this season. The latest tyres are 7.00-13 instead of the previous 6.50-15. Total width of the tyre is about Ilins. They have proved very successful in tests. * ¥ ¥

A 35-mile rally round Christchurch held by the Canterbury branch of the Riley Car Club on Sunday was won by A. T. KingA. T. White (1933 Riley Monaco) with 23 points, second place with 64 points, going to M. CroweD. Crowe (1932 Riley Monaco). L. O. Duff-Mrs Duff (Pathfinder) were third, F. Wilton-S. Rossward (1937 Riley Adelphi) were fourth, and B. Windar (1935 Kestrel) were fifth.
