OAKLAND STUD

Sire From England “The Press" Special Service MATAMATA, March 19. Neanderthal, a chestnut which finished fourth in the Irish Derby and won four races from six furlongs to a mile and three-quarters, has been purchased for the Oakland Stud, Matamata. Neanderthal is by Neanda, a son of Nasrallah, from the Court Martial mare Marteline.

Marteline also produced Alcaeus, second in both the Irish and English Derbies and winner of the Dee Stakes and Ormonde Stakes. He was sold to Italy for stud purposes.

Nearala is the sire of Primula, the best three-year-old filly in Italy and top miler of any age there. Marteline, dam of Neanderthal, was a half-sister to the crack two-year-old Nassau, which won five races including the Princess Stakes, at Newmarket, and Doncaster Produce Stakes, and is the dam of Andros (Doncaster Produce Stakes and £6107) and St Lucia (Coronation Stakes and £6221). This is the family which earlier ' produced Sir Galahad 11, Bull Dog, Admiral Drake, Bois Roussel, Dastur and Bahram.
