TWO-YEAR COMA

Family Not Recognised (N.Z. Pres* Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, March 19. A man who suffered severe head injuries in a motor crash almost two years ago has spent almost all the intervening period in the Palmerston North Hospital in a deep coma. For more than 23 months he has been living in the intensive care ward at the hospital, and, apart from a brief moment soon after the accident when he appeared to recognise his baby son, he has given no sign of recognising anyone or anything. The man is Charles Paki, now aged 28. His wife, Mrs Jeanne Paki, and their son, Michael, live at Porirua. They regularly visit him in hospital. The accident occurred on April 4, 1962, on the FoxtonSanson road near Rosina Line.

The car slewed off the road and travelled over 180 feet before it came to rest There were five other passengers in it besides Mr Paki.

They were all treated at the Palmerston North Hospital and discharged.
