Technicians Trained

There should be- no shortage of competent television technicians in Christchurch, says a Christchurch Technical

College spokesman. When asked yesterday whether the college was su.. running courses in television, he said that the course had been dropped this year—after about seven years—because of insufficient enrolments.

About 100 men had taken the course since it was first offered by the college, he said. Many were radio servicemen.

With their experience in the radio field most found the theoretical side of the television course within their capabilities. After completing

the course they would soon master the practical side of television work, he said. Last year three men who took the course sat, and at least two passed, the examination for the advanced trade certificate for radio work. Those eligible to sit for this certificate had previously gained the ordinary trade certificate. They were also required to pass an examination in the theory of television, and to have had considerable practical experience of television servicing.

“Anyone with the advanced trade certificate is certainly competent to service television sets,” the spokesman said; “but there are plenty of others still competent to do this work.”
