WORKS IDLE
Dispute In Gisborne
(HZ. Press Association) GISBORNE. March 17. Hundreds of men are idle and there has been no killing at the Haiti Freezing Works since Friday, when the Gisborne Freezing Workers’ Union decided to stop work after a dispute with the management of the company. The dispute mainly affected chamber hands and relates to an incident which occurred about six weeks ago. A meeting was held today and another will be held tomorrow morning in an effort to resolve the dispute. The chambers at the freezing works are full. It was hoped that this position could have been alleviated by the loading of the Waipawa, now in the Gisborne roadstead. But chamber hands would not handle frozen meat for loading out during the dispute.
