‘HOW DO YOU KNOW?’
(f rom Out Own Reporter 1
WELLINGTON, March 17. The Soviet Legation in Wellington says it has no information about the Russian whaling fleet off the Canterbury coast except what it hears over the radio or reads in the newspapers. Asked this afternoon for information as to the identity of the ship, the legation’s attache on Antarctic affairs (Mr L. V. Scherbakov) said:—
“How is it known they are Russian? I would be very interested to know the source of your information. We do not say it is wrong—but usually our expeditions consist of a mother-ship and some 15 smaller ships.
“We would like to know. And if we have any information later, we shall let you know.”
