Nomads Kick Off Season

Nomads, last year’s top team in Canterbury, kicks off the new soccer season today. At Ranger Park. Bromley. Nomads will play the leading Manawatu club. Thistle, of New Plymouth, z in two matches.

The second XI game is at 12.45 p.m. and the seniors will play at 2.30 p.m. Included in the Manawatu team is E. Griffin, a farmer New Zealand inside-forward, who played as a guest for Nomads two years ago. Thistle will also play a match against Wigram on Sunday afternoon.

Shield Presented.—The Auckland cricket captain, J. T. Sparling, was last night presented with the Plunket Shield by the chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council (Mr J. Kerri. Mr Kerr complimented Auckland on its outstanding effort but confessed he thought Wellington had it "as good as sewn up before the final match.”—(PA.)
