Physical and Physico-Organic) for appointment to two Research Fellowships in the Department of Medical Chemistry (Head of Department: Professor Adrien Albert). The successful applicants will each be required to work in one of the following fields: (1) Synthesis and reactions of nitrogen heterocycles. (2) Quantitative studies of the binding of metal ions, in solution. by organic ligands (3) Kinetics of the reactions of heterocyclic substances. (4) Ultraviolet", infrared and Raman spectroscopy of aromatic N-heterocycles, and tautomerizable substances. The senior investigators con. cemed are. for (1) Professor A. Albert and Dr. D. J. Brown; for (2) and (3) Dr. p. D. Perrin: for (4) Dr. E. Spinner. Applicants should hold the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy or have had equivalent research experience. Candidates should have an Honours degree in Chemical Engineering, and post-graduate or industrial experience. An interest in Materials Science would be desirable. The Department of Chemical Engineering will move this year into a new building of 50,000 sq. ft. area, fully serviced and providing generous room for teaching and research. Present equipment of the Department includes its own IBM 1620 digital computer, linear and non-linear analogue computing equipment, and a wide range of analytical instruments. The salary for a Lecturer is within the range £lB9s—x 105—£2630 per annum, plus cost of living adjustments (at present £lO p.a.) and will be subject to deductions under the State Superannuation Act. The commencing salary will be fixed according to the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
