ANZAC DAY FILMS

Support For Operators

The Canterbury Trades Council had unanimously resolved to support the claim of the motion picture operators in their claim concerning Anzac Day screenings, said the council’s president (Mir F. L. Langley) yesterday. This action, he said, followed representations by the union. Mr Langley said the Motion Picture Operators’ Union’s claim was that if they worked on Anzac Day they required a day’s holiday to compensate for working on a holiday in addition to penal rates. The secretary of the Motion Picture Operators’ Union (Mr B. Alderdice) yesterday said that members of his union at present had only three statutory holidays a year. These were Christmas Day. Good Friday and Anzac Day. This i« probably fewer statutory holidays than for any other union,’’ he said. "Members of our union already work six days a week.”
