APOSTOLIC DELEGATE
Chch. Talks On Bishopric The Apostolic Delegate to Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania (the Most Rev. Archbishop Domenico N. Enrici) will visit Christchurch today and tomorrow, but no formal functions have been arranged. It is his first visit to this country and he' has made brief calls in Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin. The appointment of a successor to the late Most Rev. E. M. Joyce as Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch will probably be discussed this week-end. There have been reports of a deadlock in the proceedings for the appointment of a new bishop, but church officials have emphasised that bishops are appointed by the Pope himself in his own way so that any suggestion that nominations were made would be out of order. However, the leadership of the diocese would naturally be a concern of the representative of the Pope. Archbishop Enrici will visit Rome later.
