DISPUTE ON ROAD
Offer Refused By Farmer (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 13. Mr I. J. Foote, of Torehape, said this evening that he had received, through his solicitor, an offer from the Ministry of Works at Hamilton to settle his claim over the abandoned Paeroa-Pokeno railway scheme. Mr Foote, who has blocked a road running over his property on land which was to have been used for the railway, said the offer was not acceptable. It was merely a token offer of payment for the land taken for the railway causeway. “I would have expected at least eight times as much as they have offered,” he said. "No compensation is mentioned. I want a complete settlement, not a partial settlement. The present offer is an insult to anyone’s intelligence.”
