Woman Friend Of Ruby In Box

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) DALLAS, March 13. The murder trial of Jack Ruby was prolonged last night when the defence said a surprise last-minute witness would be called today.

He is expected to be Dr. A. Gibbs, of Chicago, an authority on epilepsy—the condition the defence claims began an insane black-out in Ruby on November 24, when he shot Lee Harvey Oswald, the accused assassin of President Kennedy. The prosecution closed its case late last night with the last of its psychiatrists. The trial recessed for the night after Alice Nichols testified that she had gone with Ruby “off and on” for 11 years and they had discussed marriage. She described Ruby as very emotional and given to fits of despondency. Under cross-examination she conceded she had never seen in him any indications of insanity. One of the final State witnesses was Dr. F. M. Forster, professor of neurology at the University of Wisconsin, one of the doctors who attended President Eisenhower when he had a strokeAs the trial moved into its

final stages today there was a strong feeling among experienced Texas courtroom observers that the jury would fail to agree and the whole trial would have to be held again.
