FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep complex depression to the south is maintaining a strong disturbed westerly airstream over New Zealand. Forecast to midnight: Canterbury.—Fresh to strong north-west winds predominating, persistent showers in the alps and a few brief showers elsewhere in the morning; otherwise weather fine and mild. Buller and Westland.—Fresh to strong westerly winds; skies mainly overcast, with heavy showers in the morning and isolated thunderstorms; temperatures rather cook Marlborough.—Fresh to strong north-west winds, gale force in exposed places about Cook Strait; showers about midday, otherwise weather fine, with moderate temperatures. Nelson.—Fresh west to south-west winds, strong in exposed northern areas; showers persisting about the western ranges, mainly fine elsewhere, except for brief showers in the morning; mild day temperatures. Outlook.—All districts: unsettled, with isolated showers.
