DIRECT TRAFFIC FINES
Legislation May Be Sought The chairman of the City Council’s finance committee (Cr H P. Smith) said last evening that the council would be happy to work in association with the Dunedin City Council in promoting legislation for the introduction of direct fines for traffic offences. ... Cr. Smith said the council was in favour of the direct payment of fines and had been pressing to get authority to do this. “I am satisfied it would represent a great deal of saving in man-hours, not only for our staff but also for those who unfortunately commit, a breach,” he said. Anyone who committed a breach could have the matter heard in court if he wished, said Cr. Smith.
