1965 Will Be Busy Season For N.Z. Rugby League

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 12. Rugby League next year will undertake probably its busiest season ever, following a decision by the New Zealand council to invite Australia to make a short tour.

As well as the Australian visit, New Zealand will take part in the World Cup series, playing both here and in Australia, and then begin a tour of England and France.

No decision was reached on whether the Australian visit should take place before the World Cup—May 29 to June 14—or afterwards. This will be largely a matter for the Australian Rugby League, which will discuss it at its annual meeting on April 9. The team to tour England and France is expected to leave about late August. Proposal Rejected The council has rejected a suggestion by the International Rugby League Board for a change in dates for the World Cup which would have entailed New Zealand and Great Britain playing matches on the Saturday, fly between New Zealand and Australia on the Sunday, and play another series of matches on the Monday. The secretary (Mr J. Knowling) said: “The suggestion is ridiculous.” The council decided to ask Australia to consider the possibility of the winner of the North v. South Island match this season visiting Australia to play New South Wales and Queensland.
