Centre Defies N.Z.A.A.A.
NEW PLYMOUTH, March 12. The West Coast—North Island athletic centre decided last night to stand by its decision to allocate the 1965 national athletics championships to New Plymouth in spite of an objection by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. Delegates to a centre meeting in Wanganui unanimously supported New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park as the venue for the championships.
Proposals to overcome the short circuit track to which the N.Z.AAA. objects will be submitted to the associa-

tion. The present Pukekura Park track is five laps to the mile which the will not approve for national championships. The new proposal will be for a 385-yard track of six lanes with four laps to the mile, plus 220 yards. The NZ-A.A.A. will be asked to give a ruling on the minimum size track it is prepared to accept for national championships. The West Coast centre wants the meeting to be held on February 25, 26, and 27, not March 4, 5 and 6, as requested by the N.ZAAA.
R.N.Z.A.F. Tennis.—Woodbourne narrowed Wigranti’s big lead in the R.N.Z.AF. inter-station tennis tournament at Woodbourne yesterday. The points position at the end of yesterday’s play was: Wigram 41, Woodbourne 30, Hobsonville 8, Headquarters and Whenuapai 6, Obakea 3, Te Rapa O.—(P.A.)
