ACCORD ON AIR TREATY

DCS Route To U.S. Discussed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 12. New Zealand and United States delegations have reached agreement on a new civil air transport treaty, which would modernise operating conditions and expand routes, the Civil Aviation Administration announced today. The agreement, reached in negotiations which began on February 25 and ended yesterday in Washington, has been referred to the two Governments for final approval. Pan American World Airways now has a twice-weekly service to Auckland. New Zealand had rights to fiy to San Francisco but has never operated an airline, to the United States. During the next 18 months, however, New Zealand expects delivery of DCB jet transports. Officials refused to say what route expansion had been agreed upon, but it was learned that Tahiti was one of the points under discussion.

The New Zealand delegation was led by the Air Secretary (Mr B. R. Rae).
