WORK OF HERITAGE
Minister’s Praise (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 12. The organisation’s concept was a fine one and appreciation of the type of people involved showed them to be fine also, said the Prime Minister’s representative, the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine), when he opened the annual national conference of Heritage today. “One has always known of the existence of Heritage, but because it works quietly and almost secretly, things are seldom published about it,” he said.
“One should pay tribute to people who do this kind of work when there is a lowering of morality generally.” Major-General L. W. Thornton, Chief of General Staff, said: “A senior officer in command of men soon realises the important work of caring for the families of the people he commands. “In a way, Heritage supports the efforts we make in caring for our forces. It is a comfort to know there is an organisation like you behind us.”
