MORE STAFF WANTED
Southland Schools (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 16. Post-primary schools in Southland needed at least another 12 qualified teachers to bring their staffs up to the required total, the secretarymanager of the Southland Education Board (Mr T. J, Gosling) said today. He said he could see no improvement in secondary school staffing in the immediate future. He thought there was an acute shortage of staff for secondary schools, particularly district igh schools. Southland primary schools were better off than they had been for some years in the past: The shortage had been eliminated by the creation of the special mobile reserve on which 20 qualified teachers, recruited from Canterbury, were serving.
Southland primary schools had only one unqualified teacher, compared with 27 the previous year, Mr Gosling said.
